Onward to New Adventures

Team Orange bids a fond farewell to our Advocacy and Communications Director, Gary Howe. After four years, Gary is embarking on a new adventure.

Gary's passion for advancing walking and rolling made the region more accessible. He encouraged others to act by sharing his insights in Norte's Advocate and Explore Academies, empowering over 100 individuals to become more engaged citizen advocates.

He also played an instrumental role in managing Norte's pandemic response, ensuring that Norte continued to empower youth through outdoor recreation and active transportation. His reassuring words in our newsletter and within the community at that time helped to reinforce the power of community and place.

As Communications Director, Gary established our must-read weekly newsletter, and grew our subscriber list by an impressive 72% since 2020. The newsletter connects us with our supporters and spreads our message of active transportation and community empowerment. He also spearheaded Norte's excellent bike parking program, installing over 150 Norte bike racks throughout Northern Michigan!

I have been privileged to work alongside a dedicated and passionate team of staff, volunteers, and partners," says Gary. "Seeing young people's beaming smiles as they start rolling has been the highlight of my time at Norte. I'm grateful for the experience and opportunities, and I will always cherish the memories and impact we've made together."
