Norte Youth Cycling is dedicated to building happier, healthier, stronger, and better-connected communities by empowering the young and young at heart. To fulfill this mission, we offer various youth bike programs and community initiatives. An internship with Norte is an opportunity to work with a dedicated team and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of nonprofit work, and a chance to ride bikes with some of the best people around!

Our Summer Interns support various educational programs, outreach activities, community initiatives, and events that further Norte's mission. Strong organizational and communication skills are critical to helping Norte transform the culture of health in the Grand Traverse region. 

RELATIONSHIPS 

Norte's Summer Interns will report to the Director of Operations. They will also work closely with all Norte teams: communications, programs, outreach, and development. In addition, this position will develop and strengthen external relationships with community members, such as partners, donors, volunteers, and the general public. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Help coach and deliver in Norte's programs, including Summer Bike Camp and ShredVenture.

  • Play a supporting role for Norte's outreach events, including Balance Bike Meet Ups, Bikes for All Meet Ups, Community Slow Rolls, bike valet, and other public outreach events.

  • Assist with Norte's community initiatives, including the Kids' Bike Library and Community Bike Shop at the Civic Center. 

  • Help deliver and assist with Learn-to-Ride lessons.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • College graduate or currently enrolled in a college program majoring in education, nonprofit management, social work, computer science, communications, recreation, health studies, or a related field.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills 

  • Excellent prioritization abilities and working independently and as part of a team

  • Exhibit professionalism with superior social and interpersonal skills

  • Effective problem-solving skills 

  • Knowledge of Google Workspace or ability to learn

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

  • A desire to learn and grow professionally

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Daily computer work 

  • Occasional light lifting 

  • Occasional bicycle riding 

COMPENSATION 

Our unpaid interns are typically current students fulfilling college requirements.

A TYPICAL DAY AT NORTE 

No two days are the same at Norte! Every day will consist of working with many other people, primarily at our Grand Traverse County Civic Center headquarters, Wheelhouse, and Clubhouse.

2. Submit your resume and a cover letter telling us why you want to join Norte to jobs@norteyouthcycling.org with "Summer Intern" in the subject line. Applications will be accepted until 5 pm EDT on March 14, 2025.

The ideal candidate would start with Norte as soon as possible and commit for a minimum of six weeks between May and September for at least 6-hour shifts three days a week.
