Bikes at Work
It's no secret that we love bicycles at Norte. The Wheelhouse is overflowing with them right now. There are over 700 bikes in our Kids' Bike Library alone — we loaned out over 600 last year. In addition, our Bikes for All fleet has over 20 adaptive bikes. Adaptive bike is a catch-all term that includes tricycles, bucket bicycles, two and three-wheeled tandems, comfort bicycles, recumbents, and step-throughs.
Why do we love bikes so much? Part of the reason is Norte's annual Christmas Tree by Bike service proving people on bikes get the job done. At a minimum, bicycles offer convenient and healthy transportation. We use them to roll to work, school, grocery store, library, and hardware stores. We attach extra seats, benches, trailers, and even pegs to carry human and canine friends. In addition, we're increasingly seeing cargo bikes built for moving all sorts of things. Moving companies haul your stuff in big cities with heavy-duty work bikes. Norte Business Champion Higher Grounds Trading Co. delivers your coffee with a bicycle.
The point? People are putting bikes to work, and we're all about it. So each year, we decorate Norte's big orange trailer with Christmas lights and set out through the ice and snow to collect your evergreens. And with each tree we take to the recycling center, we demonstrate the power of the bicycle to get the job done.
If you'd like to join us in this bike-tastic celebration, there are two ways.
Volunteer — We need a few more tree bike elves for the two weeks after Christmas.
Book Us — If you live in Traverse City, sign up for Norte to pick up your tree.
