Youth Leadership
Young people should be seen, heard, and valued by their community. We believe in their ability to take action and contribute to making their neighborhoods safer and healthier.
Our youth leadership council empowers young people to stand up, speak up, get involved, and do good in their community. The council brings together a small group of talented young men and women aged 14–18. They dedicate themselves to helping Norte advance a stronger, better connected, and more walk-and-roll-friendly community.
Council members commit to a one-year term. They attend quarterly meetings and volunteer a minimum of 12 hours per year. Sessions involve planning projects, organizing events, advising staff on programs, and participating in leadership activities.
The Youth Leadership Council looks like this:
Assisting at Norte’s outreach events and advocacy efforts
Mentoring the young riders in our Youth Bike Programs
Helping at the Grand Traverse Regional Kids’ Bike Library and Community Bike Shop
Youth Council members may also work as Summer Bike Camp Assistant Coaches and Bike Valet Attendant positions.
