Celebrating a Decade of Motion: What an Amazing Ride!
Dear Norte Community,
As we reflect on the past decade, we are filled with immense gratitude for the unwavering support you have shown Norte Youth Cycling. Our recent Decade in Motion celebration at the City Opera House was a testament to the joy, community spirit, and shared passion that define Norte. It was truly a night to remember, highlighting our collective impact and celebrating our mission to champion bikes and community, together!
When we talk about impact, it is important to recognize the importance of access. We strive to ensure our programs reach and support those who will benefit most. In 2021, we began holding program spots for children who receive support from local organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Single MOMM, and Child and Family Services. We also simplified our scholarship process. Minor adjustments like this significantly increase access and opportunity. Since 2021, Norte Youth Cycling has provided over $42,000 in full and partial program scholarships to children in our region!
Every year, we expand the Norte Bike Library. This community resource now contains roughly 1,000 bicycles that are maintained by our Chief Mechanic, Tyler, and key volunteers like John Germaine. These bikes are available for children ages 2-10 and ensure access to the joys, independence, and confidence that cycling brings are available to all. Our gratitude goes out to Mclain Cycle and Fitness for jump-starting our bike library years ago and for their continued support.
A Tribute from the State of Michigan
This weekend, our work was recognized with a special tribute from the State of Michigan. Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Senator John Damoose, Representatives John Roth, and Betsy Coffia, and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II all signed a special tribute acknowledging a decade of outstanding contributions to Northern Michigan communities by Norte Youth Cycling. Dakota Baker, Senator John Damoose’s Deputy Chief of Staff, hand-delivered the tribute certificate Friday evening. We are deeply honored by this statewide recognition of our work that is only possible because of our dedicated coaches, volunteers, board members, staff, and the generosity of our community. Thank you.
A Special Thank You
We also want to thank everyone who celebrated this milestone with us, in person and from afar, and the nearly 40 people and businesses who generously contributed raffle prizes. Your participation made the event even more special!
Exciting News: $10,000 Donation Match
Last week, a generous supporter extended a $10,000 donation match to Norte. Donations made now will help support our 2024 programs, community scholarships, and increase our impact in the region. Contributions are still needed and greatly appreciated. Every dollar counts, and with the match, your donation will help roll Norte onwards, twice as far! Contribute to our 10 Year Match.
